It’s been just over a year since Hurricane Helene devastated the Southeast as one of the most unimaginable storms in U.S. history. Since then, our community, as well as people across the country, have rallied together to support us, doing everything possible to rebuild and renew right here in beautiful Western North Carolina. Here at Bright’s Creek, our strong spirit and dedication to offering our members and guests an excellent experience continues to drive us, each and every day.
Fall has historically been the area’s most popular time for visits thanks to the amazing autumn views and mild weather. There’s no better time to discover the businesses, areas, and activities that are ready to welcome you back with open arms and full hearts. The best way to support our communities now that they are reopened? Simply show up and enjoy everything our area has always had to offer. With roads open, a thriving airport, and plenty of places back open for business, come along with us on a journey of rediscovery through our favorite Western North Carolina areas that are back and even better.
Bright’s Creek
First up, is our very own Mill Spring NC mountain oasis. While we sustained a much more modest impact relative to the area, we were able to re-open 9 holes on our Tom Fazio golf course within just 2.5 weeks after the storm. Within only 4 weeks, we had 18 holes back and ready to play! We were lucky and grateful to have fully recovered so quickly thanks to our team, owners, and members who came together. If you have been holding off on a visit, don’t wait! We are excited to meet you.
Beyond one of Tom Fazio’s favorite NC golf courses, there’s an array of amazing activities slated for fall at Bright’s Creek! Book your Discovery Tour and come experience all that our WNC community has to offer, from family-friendly fun to NC leaf peeping peaking now, and more.
On your visit to Bright’s Creek, check out some iconic Western NC towns just a short drive away.
Lake Lure (about a 15-minute drive)

The town of Lake Lure is back to welcoming visitors. While recovery efforts are still underway, and the lake itself is still undergoing restoration, a visit to this mountain town is one for the books. From zip lining and horseback riding to rock climbing, hiking, bird watching, and more, outdoor adventures for the whole family await. Discover unique dining experiences in Lake Lure’s Restaurant Guide and find endless ways to enjoy the area through their Fall Back in Love Passport.
Chimney Rock (about a 25-minute drive)

One of the local areas hardest hit by Hurricane Helene, the resilient town of Chimney Rock, has just begun a new era. While the rebuilding continues in phases, Main Street is back and bustling. Small staple businesses situated along the Rocky Broad River like the iconic River Watch Waterfront Bar & Grill are back to serving customers with a smile—all while you take in the serene scenic views.
After you enjoy a local meal and stroll through the city, don’t miss a visit to the Chimney Rock State Park, now open daily. Plan your trip here as hiking to the top requires a reservation. Note, the only open route into Chimney Rock is NC 9 through Lake Lure. Be sure to add a stop at the top of the rock or explore Hickory Nut Falls Trail for panoramic views of the unforgettable fall foliage.

The charming NC mountain city of Hendersonville, voted one of the quaintest small towns in NC, has plenty of big fun to offer.
