Where Craftsmanship Meets Character

Whether Bright’s Creek is your primary residence or vacation destination, designing a space that fits your family’s needs and aesthetic is at the forefront of making daily life the best it can be. It’s the perfect sofa made for family movie night. A cozy chair designed for sipping coffee while taking in Blue Ridge Mountain views. The dining room table that’s home to holiday memories and everyday moments.

The talented duo at Asheville’s Kerr Woodworking understands that a life well-lived leans on heirloom-quality pieces that infuse your home with warmth, function, style, and stories. Founded in 2021, this woodworking studio is the brainchild of Bryan and Erin Kerr. With a focused mission to stay small and create intentional pieces for the conscious consumer, all of their pieces are handmade by Bryan, while Erin leads the way on business, marketing, and more. With editorial features in renowned publications like Carolina Home + Garden, their handcrafted goods span from custom furniture to sustainable, small-batch home goods. Whether you’re just moving in and are looking for ways to intentionally curate your space with pieces made just for your new home, or simply want to refresh your aesthetic with pieces that will stand the test of time and trends, Kerr has you covered.

Sustainability is very important to us. We really embrace the SLOW movement and see success as creatively crafting pieces with extremely minimal to zero waste. Our Western North Carolina creative community is also such a critical component of what we do. We use our company as a vehicle to hire and work with other makers in Asheville, helping to sustain and uplift others to create this really special network that our neighbors can tap into.”

Cheryl Smith – Cheryl Smith Associates Interior Design

One such talent, local designer Cheryl Smith of Hendersonville’s Cheryl Smith Associates Interior Design, brings more than 40 incredible years of experience to helping clients realize their vision. With Bright’s Creek projects under her belt, Cheryl has roots in the area and a true appreciation for working with local artisans whenever she can.

At Cheryl Smith Associates, our goal is to get clients the things they love and have total freedom to express themselves,” says Cheryl. To do just that, her process begins with simply sitting with clients and listening closely to their needs. “We want to learn about what they’re looking for and what they’re hoping for. We work with clients during an array of stages, but we typically come in very early in the process after the architect finalizes preliminary components. Our goal is to help people discover what they want, so we’ve never specialized in a specific look. We live by the mantra: your vision, realized.”

From curating finishes to selecting lighting and color, sourcing furnishings, perfecting accessories, and more, Cheryl’s on a mission to disrupt any preconceived notions about the interior design process by making it two things: fun and collaborative. Guided by famed interior designer Iris Apfel’s quote, “I don’t believe in rules,” Cheryl says rules are meant to be broken, so they’re a waste of time. As far as design trends are concerned? “Do what you like and make it timeless.” Discover more of Cheryl and her team’s versatile work here and contact them for your consultation here.

Another local interior design industry vet, Jill Jones, VP of Design & Sales at WNC’s ID.ology Interiors & Design, shares the same guiding principles. “When we’re working with clients, we’re designing for them and not the trends. Trends don’t have longevity and at ID.ology, we build legacy homes and want the interiors to match that sentiment.”

We view interior design touches from a living standpoint and always consider how a family will function in the home,” says Jill. “ID.ology is very involved, from R & D to concepting presentations—we actually have 20 meetings during the build process to keep everyone on track. Architects see things from a 50,000-foot view, while designers and builders see them from a 5,000-foot view. Our full-service approach gives clients exactly what they want. We’re not making model homes. We’re making spaces where families can make great memories together. There’s just nothing better than that.”
