Meet the New Director of Golf at Bright’s Creek Golf Club in Mill Spring, NC:
AJ Fetsko Brings 10+ Years of Experience as a Class-A PGA Professional

AJ Fetsko has been interested in golf since he was 14 years old when his hockey camp was canceled and his grandfather gave him some golf clubs he had cut down for him. He instantly had a love (and natural talent) for the game. Now, 19 years later, AJ is the new director of golf operations at Bright’s Creek Golf Club in Mill Spring, NC. He started earlier this summer, jumping at the opportunity after learning about Bright’s Creek from one of the development’s new owners, Mark Lampert. AJ met Mark while he was working at Promontory Club in Park City, UT, where Mark is also a member, and Mark told him about plans for reviving the golf course and community after purchasing the Bright’s Creek development in 2020 along with Frank Blythe and Eddie Garcia.

“Mark had so much pride and enjoyment when talking about Bright’s Creek, his eyes literally lit up, so I had to see it for myself,” AJ said. “I’ve played and worked for some of the top courses in the country, and Bright’s Creek is one of the absolute best. I was ready to take my career to the next level, and the opportunity at Bright’s Creek came at the perfect time, and I’m so excited to be here.”

As the director of golf operations, AJ oversees all aspects of the golf business at Bright’s Creek, including course set-up, scheduling, member services, retail, event management, instructional golf, budgeting, planning, and other responsibilities.

A native of Cleveland, OH, AJ began working at golf courses as a teenager, cleaning golf carts and picking the range while squeezing in playing time. The golf pro at a local municipal golf course recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career as a golf professional and complete the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) program.

As a Class-A member of the PGA of America since 2012 and with 10 years’ experience in golf club management at courses in Park City, UT, and Ridgefield, CT, AJ is ready to provide members and guests at Bright’s Creek Golf Club with an unmatched experience. “There are not many places like Bright’s Creek with a renowned golf course that’s not so structured and strict about scheduling tee times like other top-tier golf courses,” AJ said. “Members can arrive and be on the course within 15 minutes enjoying a round of golf where they might have to schedule a tee time days in advance at other courses. We want our course to be inviting and friendly on all levels, and this is just one example of how Bright’s Creek is different and delivers a first-class experience.”

One of the Top Golf Courses Making a Comeback

Bright’s Creek Golf Course was named one of the best new courses by Golfweek magazine in 2007 and a top North Carolina course by Golf Digest magazine in 2017. The golf course is an integral part of the new ownership’s plans to establish Bright’s Creek as a premier golf resort community in Western North Carolina.

A Tom Fazio designed course, Bright’s Creek is an excellent course for all golfers, from the touring professional to a beginner. “All golfers want to be visually wowed throughout the course while also having fun playing it, and that’s what this course delivers,” AJ said. “Mr. Fazio’s ability to design a course cutting it into the natural landscape is remarkable. With the elevated tees and the trees and bunkers framing the holes, the entire course offers stunning views and enjoyable play.”

When the new owners acquired Bright’s Creek in 2020, they invested in a bunker renovation known as the Billy Bunker project, revamping the drainage system and faces of the bunkers for improved drainage, making them more playable. The renovations also included aerification and restorations along the course to revitalize it for the busy golf season.

In addition to course renovations, The Water Wheel dining area and lounge received a transformation with upgraded flooring, plush new furniture, and an extension of the outdoor deck, which overlooks the 19th hole. The larger deck provides additional seating and the perfect setting to enjoy a meal outdoors while taking in the beautiful panoramic views of the course and the Western North Carolina mountains.

“The new owners have initiated a lot of great things at Bright’s Creek with course updates and new amenities, and I’d like to keep that momentum rolling forward by continuing to provide the best golf course experience to our members and guests,” AJ said.
